Requirements

  • Be English proficient
  • Be at least 16 years old to solo, 17 years old for your pilot’s license
  • Proof of Citizenship OR TSA approval prior to beginning your training
  • A Minimum of 20 hours of training: 15 hours dual instruction, 5 hours solo practice
  • Pass the written exam with 70% minimum
  • Pass the checkride

Do I Need to Pass a Medical Exam?

No. Once you have your Sport Pilot’s License, if you can keep a valid driver’s license, you can fly.

What Type of Aircraft Can I Fly With a Sport Pilot License?

Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) only. Light Sport Aircraft will be one or two seats only, and cannot exceed a total loaded weight of 1,320 lbs. There are several categories of Light Sport Aircraft licenses including LSA Airplane, LSA Lighter Than Air, and LSA Weight Shift Control, among others.

How Often Should I Train?

There are no rules, but we recommend you fly at least twice a week, three or four times a week for accelerated training. Flying only once a week or less can slow your progress. If you’re in a hurry or under a tight budget, it’s best to fly on a more condensed
schedule.

I Already Have My Private Pilot’s License, Am I Qualified to Fly Light Sport Airplane?

Yes! Light Sport Airplanes also fall within the category of single-engine-land fixed wing aircraft that your private pilot’s license endorses.

Am I Too Young or Too Old?

Nope! While youngsters can not solo until they are 16, we have students as young as 12. Likewise, we have several students well into their 70s or older who are finally fulfilling life-long dreams to become pilots! It’s never too early or too late to do what you love!
